These one minute Tree Stories from the Carlow Garden Festival range from simple heartfelt declarations for the natural world to historical stories from the 1700’s, from comical police searches for tree climbing gorillas to forest bathing
This story comes from Bryan Leech at his herb garden in Kilgraney House during the Garden Festival event. This fascinating story dates back to the 1780’s.

Hello I am Bryan Leech and we are here at Kilgraney house.
We are very fortunate to have a series of herb gardens and in dead centre is this Mulberry Tree .
Back in the 1780’s the people in Geneva weren’t particularly happy with the town council and in particular the crafts people of Geneva ..silk-weavers , the printers and the watchmakers. They were interested in moving away from the city and settling elsewhere , they elected to move to Ireland .
The lord Viceroy gave them funding to create a University City, close to passage East in County Waterford . The foundation stone was laid in 1784, but in the intervening two years the new council ( back in Geneva) were considered to be OK by the crafts people only the silk-weavers moved to Waterford. They unfortunately couldn’t grow the mulberry trees and they left and packed their bags and moved back to their beloved Switzerland.

Open Call for your just a minute Tree Story on video
Memory Palace of Tree Stories is a socio-ecological art practice which invites you to tell a story or share information about trees . It is a creative-led social enquiry of how we can live well for both personal and collective wellbeing. Your story can be any kind of tree story , a personal tree story, an ecological tree story , an environmental tree story, an historical tree story or even a botanical tree story. I do hope you can contribute a comment on how we can live better with the greater community of life.
