Tree Story Workshops in Chengdu.
- The XLY Museum Tree Story Workshop 25.05.2024
The first workshop on tree stories was held on Saturday afternoon 25th May 2024 in a lovely function room at the Xu Liaoyuan MoMA Museum complex.
This workshop marked an important step for The Memory Palace of Tree Stories. The hosts of this exhibition and workshop project …the Foreign Affairs office of Chengdu Municipal People’s Government and the People’s Government of Jinjiang District ….provided the wonderful simultaneous translator Daniella.

After introducing a little about myself and my life in China, I spoke about the idea of sharing tree stories , such as why it is a good idea to explore and identify what your own connections are to the natural world and to try to arrange it into a one minute tree story on video . The group separated into pairs and shared their ideas and after three minutes changed partners similar to the process of speed dating. At the end of the session we finally returned to the large group where a couple of people shared their Tree Story. As a way of encouraging them to speak out , the first few people who spoke I promised a guided tour of my exhibition in the opposite building.
It was a pleasure to hear the wonderful ideas which emerged from the group .

2. Sansheng Culture Centre and Xishu road communities Tree Story Workshop, 26.05.2024
Huge thank you to all who attended Sunday’s Tree Story workshop at the Sansheng Comprehensive Cultural Service Centre with Xishu Road community in Jingjiang district , Chengdu. I met lots of interesting people with great ideas for tree stories.
After my introductions on my creative work in China we began the pair and group work.
Some story tellers spoke about the change of seasons and the different effects it has on the mood of the person telling it. A person spoke about studying cooking and decorating dishes with images of trees with jam.
At this workshop we even had a pet bird visit the group. Though it was not a talking bird so we did not hear its tree story.
Thank you to all who helped organize this especially Ms Wei Jiangli 魏江莉 , also thank you for the lovely gifts.
And once again thank you to the wonderful Daniela for her simultaneous translation . It was super to walk among the group and hear what they were saying as they were speaking.
I really look forward to hearing and seeing your tree stories on video for the Memory Palace of Tree Stories.
