These one minute Tree Stories from the Carlow Garden Festival range from simple heartfelt declarations for the natural world to historical stories from the 1700’s, from comical police searches for tree climbing gorillas to forest bathing
Mary Glennon attended the Carlow Garden Festival during summer 2023 and was surprised at seeing so many Elm trees which have so far evaded Dutch Elm disease. It brought back memories of children sitting up in an Elm tree making friends with a blackbird.

Mary’s words:
Just walking through the gardens , I came across some Elm trees and it reminded me when I was young
we had an elm tree in the garden that unfortunately has since succumbed to Dutch Elm Disease .
But there was always a blackbird had a nest up at the fork and we would climb up and sit and keep the blackbird company as she sat in the nest and she passed no remarks to us whatsoever .
And for years and years and years it appeared that the same blackbird came back .
But we sat up in that Elm tree so often and when I saw them down here I was like Oh my god ,
because it is so long since we’ve seen any of the Elm trees, you know anywhere .

Memory Palace of Tree Stories is a socio-ecological art practice which invites you to tell a story or share information about trees . It is a creative-led social enquiry of how we can live well for both personal and collective wellbeing. Your story can be any kind of tree story , a personal tree story, an ecological tree story , an environmental tree story, an historical tree story or even a botanical tree story. I do hope you can contribute a comment on how we can live better with the greater community of life.
