I am thrilled to present the first tree story from Dubai by educator, writer and motivational speaker Nritya Sultana. Nritya and her family lived in the apartment next to mine when I used to live in Dubai 20 years ago.

Nritya’s words:
As salaam alaykum. I ‘m Nritya Sultana from Dubai and my tree Story is about the Date Palm
The Date Palm has been the life line for the Arabian Desert for more than five thousand years and it is known as “The Tree of Life’.
A fully grown Date Palm can reach up to heights of 15 to 25 meters
They can live for more than 150 years . The tree is made up of strong cellulose fibres.
These trees begin to produce fruit for upto 4-5 years and they can produce up to 150 kilograms of fruit per year .
There are more than 200 varieties of dates .
:Thoory, sukkari, medjool, deglet and masafati
Despite rapid modernisation the Date Palm still holds religious and cultural significance for the bedouin heritage .

Open Call for your tree story on video
Memory Palace of Tree Stories is a socio-ecological art practice which invites you to tell a story or share information about trees . It is a creative-led social enquiry of how we can live well for both personal and collective well-being. Your story can be any kind of tree story , a personal tree story, an ecological tree story , an environmental tree story, an historical tree story or even a botanical tree story. I do hope you can contribute a comment on how we can live better with the greater community of life.
The year 2024 we continue to gather your stories in the form of one minute videos and we are really looking forward to hearing your tree story . I can be contacted directly on this platform or on the contact page on this website.
Tips for making your Video on your phone:
* Write out your one minute script and record your voice separately as a clean back up sound file. Then proceed with your recording and voice over if suitable.
* ideally record your video widescreen format, this is usually favoured with exhibition spaces ( Long format may also be exhibited but it is less so )
*if you wish to use an avatar name , or if you prefer not to show your face please consider what visual content you wish to include to make your story as engaging as possible . The video clips of your tree , the images/photos must be your own images owned by you or copyright free images.
Thank you for contributing to the Memory Palace of Tree Stories
Niamh Cunningham
